Korean War TOE

During the Korean War the principle combatant units on the UN side were US Army, British Army, and Republic of Korea (ROK); on the opposite side it was the Korean People’s Army (KPA), People’s Volunteer Army (PVA).

What was the organizational structure, numerical size, relative to friend and foe?

Did the Pershing, Patton, Cromwell and Centurion tanks match up against the T-34/85?

Since the invasion of Japan never took place, MacArthur had insisted for it that other Allied troops assigned to invasion had to equipped and receive American logistical support. So in Korea did that become a problem?

So by inference did interfere with operations in Korea as MacArthur had thought that it would in the event of an invasion of Japan?
How effective was the KPA after defeats between September and November 1950?

Hey Cisco,

Many would say that Communist Chinese & Russians also fought on the North Korean side!?

Not much has been published on the North Korean TO&E. Most of their initial equipment came from capture Japnese stocks left over from WWII. They were supplied SU76's and older T34/76's initially, later T34/85's.

As armor goes the opentopped SU76 did not do well, and the T34/76 retained its weekness of the tank commander doing double duty as gunner and commander. The T34/85 solved this problem with its 5 man crew.

As tanks go many M4 Shermans/76mm were deployed, they did well against both T34 types, as did the early Pattons and Cromwell's. The M26 Pershing and Centurion tanks were supirior in every respect.

MacArthur's desire to have every one using the same equipment was simple common sence, keep the logistics as simple as possable.
