Thanks for the heads up Tom!

That should be a great read, I'm a fan of Hartwig, & what a great topic!?

I see bookdepository.com offers preorder at $37.46 with free shipping, but I don't know anything about them. [Read More]

Amazon has preorder for $47.06 with free shipping [Read More]

Advise if anyone sees cheaper deals. It seems it won't be published until mid-Sept 2012.

Gave a full-day tour today at Antietam and picked up Hartwig's TO ANTIETAM CREEK for $38 + tax at VC bookstore.
That darn thing is 2.25 inches thick!
It's got 794 total pages, with 652 pages of them being about the campaign. Remainder are notes and index.
Also bought Stephen Recker's new RARE IMAGES OF ANTIETAM.

Amazing number of cars at the VC and plenty of people stomping on the fields. Weather was in low 80s with plenty of sun.

Tom,

I've been anxiously awaiting the publication of this book...I ordered my copy from Amazon on Friday and expect delivery by the 15th.

I'm rereading James V. Murfin's THE GLEAM OF BAYONETS now as a "warm-up" to Scott's book.

Is there anything better than reclining back in a chair on a cold October morning, with a big cup of coffee in one hand and a 794 page Antietam tome on your lap? Well, maybe. But for me, it's what heaven must be like. And it's only volume one. Any idea when the second volume is due?

I'd pre-ordered it from Amazon; but when I walked into VC, Ranger Keith Snyder noted the book was now for sale. So I canceled order via smartphone and bought it there. Strangely, Amazon's price has been fluctuating, as today it is now $48.45. It was not for sale during 150th Anniversary, which probably cost VC plenty of lost sales.

I've no idea when Volume II will be ready, but do know Volume I took a loooong time.

So far, Hartwig's book has been an excellent read (A+ for style and content). I also bought Tom Clemens' Volume II of the Carman manuscript. I'm guiding another bus tour to Antietam on October 20, so will plenty of reading for fall/winter days after touring season slows down.

Nice video by CW MONITOR, featuring interview with Scott Hartwig discussing his "To Antietam Creek: The Maryland Campaign of September 1862".
