Private 1st Class Thomas Lomas, 21st Infantry Hawaii 1924
Posted on: 6/22/2010 11:00:26 AM
Hello all: am working on my family tree. My Grandmother's brother, Thomas William Lomas, Private 1st Class, Company 1, 21st Infantry, US Army, was stationed in Hawaii in 1924. He was killed in a duty related accident in Honolulu. He had joined about a year and a half previous to his death on January 2, 1924 and was stationed in the Schofield Barracks.

I found his grave in Fall River, MA (St. Patrick's Cemetery) and I tend it. I often wonder as to the circumstances of the accident. Have looked online for info for about a year now and all I can find is that the 21st Infantry was indeed in Hawaii in 1924 and the unit had a reputation for winning various sporting competitions, was given a name of GIMLET.

The death made the front page of various newspapers in the Fall River, MA area. Various military from the local army bases attended the funeral, which was held in February of 1924.

All that is said in the newspaper accounts is that he died while in the service of the US Army in an accident.

Does anyone know where I can/how I can find out what happened?
