Aside from the direct intervention of French arms and troops, the British now had to worry about other areas -- theaters, if you will -- besides North America. Not to mention the French fleet's contribution at Yorktown.
Take care.

Without Washington's Crossing of the Delaware and the repeat crossing a week later the war was all but over.
David Hackett Fischer's book is one of THE best military history books I have ever read.
When Cornwalis was dining with Washington a week after their surrender at Yorktown, he toasted Washington and said...
"When the illustrious part your Excellency has borne in this long and arduous contest becomes a matter of history, fame will gather your brightest laurels rather from the banks of the Delaware than from those of the Chesapeake".

Saratoga (two fleet carriers named for it) Yorktown (two fleet carriers named for it)
Cowpens (a light carrier named for it)
Trenton (a light cruiser and an amphibious ship named for it)
Concord (a light cruiser (plus minor combatants and an auxiliary) named for it)
Kings Mountain (none) Guilford Courthouse (none)

I guess the USN is proud of our Revolutionary War Heritage!

As long as it is not that of the Continental Navy's. The CN's performance was a little less than glorious. Thank goodness for folks like Decatur, Bainbridge, Truxton, and Preble.

But there are NASSAU, GERMANTOWN, PRINCETON, BUNKER HILL, & LEXINGTON. There was even a BRANDYWINE (44 gun frigate).
Most of the ships you name are amongs the most used ship names in the navy (but I am sure you are well aware of that).
