|A US F/A-18 Super Hornet shot down a Syrian Su-22 Fitter B close to Raqqa today, after the Syrian jet had bombed positions held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) i.e. the Kurds.|
Apparently several Syrian jets had attacked earlier in the day and coalition aircraft were called to defend the SDF forces on the ground.
Now, I would expect there was 100% certainty the aircraft was not Russian before permission to take it down was given, but shows that things can get hairy once Daesh starts to unravel and the various other forces start to squabble for the land left behind..
Incidentally, was this the first US air-to-air win since the Kosovo war in 1999, when a Serb Mig-29 was shot down?
I’m not worried about the Third World War. That’s the Third World’s problem.
