The best clue I can give you now Lew is to go with the "New"

I have been to the slave cave, but just now can't remember where the one I saw was located. I don't think that it's near the stone shown in the photograph though.

Sorry for the interruption but a quick revert to Jim's earlier posting. I am kicking myself for not taking the time to look up "All Over Now" and not listening to my husband who was calling me to c'mon!

Next time Rick will have to wait till I finish my trivia post reading! Sorry Jim I never returned!

OK, to allow my friends Lew and Ginny to get to sleep, I will post the entire photograph...

I saw this rock covered with a perfect coat of moss, and had to photograph it, and left the monument to the 13 New Jersey in on the edge so I would remember where the rock was.

Anybody have one to post next?

Ed,

13th NEW JERSEY?! EGADS! Were we both off! We were on "Upper" Culp's Hill, and this, of course, is in the opposite direction! Good one, Ed!

Think we know where Kim/Becky's photo is, but we're heading out for the day in a few minutes, so will let someone else jump in.

I seem to have a vague memory (no comments necessary from the peanut galleries ) that those curved stones used to house the spring were leftovers from the 44 NY castle. Anyone else know that one? Where did I read that?

Yes, Steve, I recall that too -- I believe it was Stan Petestreet who mentioned that in one of the postings in the very first "Name that Spot" trivia thread started so very long ago.

Bill,
You sound surprised! Remember, I spent 9 wonderful weeks taking in that hallowed ground on a daily basis. There was only one day that I didn't make it to the field, and I later kicked myself for not getting out there in the torrential rain.

Well, one of my thoughts would be Spangler's meadow, but I don't remember suggesting that to Suzy for a pic opportunity. ECH is the best sunrise location, so maybe this could be down at the bottom of the hill, northeast, like around 33 MA.

I'm reaching here, pure guess.

Sorry Steve, that's not it.

The connection with Becky's photo isn't location per se, instead it's something about something in her photo and the location of the tree that are related, but it's not the location of her photo that's relative.

Steve, you are no doubt accustomed to viewing this area from above rather than from below. Think from the bottom up. It's as easy as grasping castles in the sky.

Well, I did tell Suzy that at the right time of year, if the sun angles are correct, you can get good sunrise shots through the notch between the RT's. 9 PA Reserves.

And if I've seen this from above then it's probably LRT, so I have to think of looking up instead of down.

But the photo is level ground with stone walls, and I'm just not getting an image of that area that matches the photo.

So it's not level ground? There are some tall pines like this along Warren Ave. as one approaches the intersection with Sykes, et al. So that could be BRT in the background?

Can't picture the exact tree.

Suzy,

Should I end the suspense and post a wider angle view? Or should we let Steve (and others) ponder this a while longer?

Steve,
As you can sumrise from the photo, that tree is out there pretty much alone. The photo was taken from a very popular area of the battlefield.

I think it's safe to assume that Emily R. probably visited a spot not far from the camera location.

If you know where to look, this tree can be clearly seen in BirdsEye View on Bing Maps. Now the puzzle is where to look?

Think about the clues given so far.

Who is (was) Emily R.?

Steve was very close with one of his guesses.

Good old Bing maps,

Just below the 44 NY castle, west of the Vincent wounding marker. What looks like a level field with a stone wall is a flat spot on LRT with defensive walls.

I can see it in some of my 16 MI shots from the top of LRT.

A lone tree.

Finally!

Here's the wider view. The castle is behind the camera.

Here's the birds eye view from Bing maps:

Suzy was first with the answer on this one.

The tie-in with Becky's photo was the 44th NY castle. Remember, the left-over stones were used at Spangler's Spring

For bonus points.....Who's Emily?

This Emily wasn't involved with the battle or it's aftermath, but she was very involved with something else of historic interest, especially to an engineer and New Yorker such as myself.

Besides the 44th's Castle, what else of note is found on LRT?

Warren's sister, Emily Roebling, was involved in the Brooklyn Bridge.
Is that the Emily you are referring to Bill?

That's it Ed. I said earlier that "I think it's safe to assume that Emily R. probably visited a spot not far from the camera location."
I was assuming that She probably visited LRT to view the bronze likeness of her brother, of course that was just a guess.

Emily Warren Roebling was more than "involved" in the Brooklyn Bridge. When her husband, Washington Roebling, became bedridden after he was stricken with the bends durng the construction of the foundation for one of the towers for the bridge she became his eyes, ears and mouthpiece on the project. She taught herself engineering and for all intents and purposes was the acting chief engineer on the project.
