This has been done much before, but we always have new members coming aboard, and it was always fun.

So let's play the old movie (Gettysburg) game while the winter weather still sucks!

Who said?: "They'll come boomin in the morning!"

That would be that woman on the side of the road as the Union (20th ME?) troops march into Maryland. The only woman in the movie with a speaking part.

Interesting how the quote instantly conjurs an image. I can see Harrison ducking the tree limbs when the fat picket steps out. Rather beefly reb for having campaigned with Bobby Lee.

Bill's line is the soldier on picket duty, who intercepts Harrison...who eventually says something like..."We'll take you there, but if nobody knows you, well, unfortunately, you'll have to be hanged" (or something close to that).

Sickles: "Yes sir, my II Corps was a large buffer for the Union Army."

"I said to him, General Ewell, these words. I said to him, 'Sir, give me one division and I will take that hill.'And he said nothing. He just stood there, he stared at me. I said, 'General Ewell, give me one brigade and I will take that hill.' I was becoming disturbed, sir. And General Ewell put his arms behind him and blinked. So I said, General, give me one regiment and I will take that hill.' And he said nothing! He just stood there! I threw down my sword, down on the ground in front of him!"

Arrrrggghhhh!

Isn't it bad enough that my supervisor and one of my coworkers have spent the entire morning quoting the movie to one another (interestingly enough, many of the same quotes as to be found here). Must I have it on my computer at lunch as well?

My favorite line, delivered by an apparent Ed Grimley clone:
"Well it's nothing to be ashamed of, I might tell you."

Too bad it can't be done in Looneytunes characters' voices online. Why quote lines from an awful movie ... unless they're delivered in Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny voices? Of course, too bad it's done at all, when the whole thing is best forgotten.

On second thought, there was this guy who did the lines in a stereotypical pirate's voice. "Avast me hearties" and such crap. Now that was funny!

Sorry, but I'm w/ Bob here: that was a pretty awful movie. Lacked so much in terms of believability. Of all the problems with it, the casting of Sheen for Lee was most atrocious. (Either that or Sheen's interpretation.) I just don't see Lee being so passive. I've always pictured Lee as someone who dominated any room he was in - even when Old Pete was in the room.

I dunno, saw it once, have it on the shelf, but I don't see myself really watching it ever again...

Good quote Jim: but I envision RE Lee not needing to say as much as he is pictured doing. A simple glance, a specific stress on a certain word was probably enough to cow even the great Stuart...

My wife and I saw Jeff Daniels in "God of Carnage" on Broadway last spring. I kept conjuring an image of him as Chamberlain.

Alan, Bob,

I disagree, I think that although the movie certainly has it's flaws, I wouldn't characterize it as "awful". Heck it's the flaws that endears it to many of us: The portly Santa Claus picket in the beginning, Longstreet's beard, Armistead crying over "Old Winnie", Hood's age, Warren's Monument hiding in the trees on "BRT" (portrayed by LRT). As far as Sheen's portrayal of Lee, I don't think it was alll THAT bad, in fact I think it was credible, after all Lee was not the picture of health at Gettysburg.

That's me anyway.

Basically, an overblown made-for-TV miniseries. And don't even get me started on that fat Confederate sentry at the beginning. The first view the audience gets of the ANV, and instead of a lean, mean, tough as leather veteran, what do we get? Some fat old grandfather that hasn't seen his feet in years.
