May 14-17, 1863 conference in Richmond
Posted on: 3/14/2017 12:13:59 AM
Can anyone recommend a magazine article or book regarding the May 1863 conference in Richmond with Lee, Davis, Seddon and Confederate cabinet members regarding the course of direction in the Eastern Theatre and the near-unanimous decision to launch the second invasion of the North?

I recall reading somewhere VP Alexander H. Stephens was not present.

I looked at "Lee's Lieutenant's" and "R.E. Lee" by DS Freeman and I was hoping for more detail.

Many thanks!

Best Regards,

Greg

The best coverage I've come across of that meeting and the overall situation facing the Confederacy is in Last Chance for Victory By Bowden and Ward.

That subject is covered in Chapter 1.
