Name: Robert S. Edwards | Rank: Private | Company: G | R.S. Edwards joined the regiment in August 1861, was wounded at Seven Pines, fought at South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville where he was captured near Catherine''s Furnace. He was held prisoner in Fort Delaware until paroled a short time later as General Lee began his Gettysburg Campaign. Robert remained with the regiment throughout the war serving in the Carolinas, Fort Sumter, Battle of Olustee, Petersburg and Battle of Bentonville. He surrendered with General Johnston''s army in North Carolina. He walked back home to North Georgia. On the last day of this journey, as he walked with his brother-in-law, Sam Freid, he wondered if his wife Mary might have made a peach cobbler. Sure enough, their reunion included a peach cobbler she had made that very day.
After the war, Robert settled a farm near Mena, Arkansas. He drew a pension and lived out the remainder of his days on the farm. He is buried in Hollysprings Cemetery.
