He was captured at Hanover Courthouse on 5/27/1862 and paroled back to the 28th on 8/5/1862. He was wounded in the left leg at Jericho Mills on 5/23/1864. His leg was amputated. Adolphus is mentioned in relation to a book called 'Phantom Pain: North Carolina's Artificial-Limbs Program for Confederate Veterans', which was published in 1994. He is listed as a member of Company G (which is a change from his original Company C) at the surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
