Recently learned about my great-grandfather's service and to date have not located much information. I have some general information about his service but nothing mentioned after an entry saying he was captured somewhere near Bayou Teche in Louisiana on April 13, 1863 and later paroled. No idea where exactly he was captured, the circumstances of that capture, or his disposition afterwards. I do know he lived until 1899

Name: Lewis Gene BarnettRank: 2nd Lieutenant Company: I
Lewis Gene Barnett was a Private when he enlisted in May, 1862, and was paroled as a Second Lieutenant in June, 1865. Because of this rapid promotion in rank, it can be assumed that he was an exceptional soldier during the course of his service. Lewis Gene served with Company I, 28th Regiment - ''Colonel Gray''s'' Louisiana Infantry. He was ''paroled'' about 2 months after Lee''s surrender at Appomattox. After the surrender of the Confederate Armies, all soldiers were technically prisoners of war. Therefore, they were paroled rather than discharged.
