Confederate States Army enlistee, WILEY T. WILLIS joined ADAMS ARKANSAS INFANTRY on June 30, 1861. He was one of about 75 men in his regiment who rallied around the colors and fought at the BATTLE OF PRAIRIE GROVE after the rest either deserted or surrendered.

After the BATTLE OF PRAIRIE GROVE, he reenlisted in the THIRD ARKANSAS CAVALRY and reported sick from July 1862-April 1863.

In 1863 he transferred to the 27th ARKANSAS INFANTRY and fought in the Battle of Little Rock, Battle of Pleasant Hill and Battle of Jenkins Ferry.

His regiment surrendered on May 26, 1865.

October 1861 he was wounded at Chickamaga [shot in the knee ] He was detailed to Capt. Charles W. Peden's Provost Marshall as a train guard at Atlanta Ga. His wife applied for a pension. Researchers, be aware that their is another S. B Gibson [ older man ] in the files of this unit.

Married Cornelia Manning of Bowling Green Kentucky. Died in 1921 and is buried in the churchyard of the 1892 Hall's Chapel Church on Barren River Rd., Bowling Green, KY.
