Name: Benjamin J. GastonRank: 2nd Lieutenant Company:
Second Lt. Gaston is the GGrandfather of my friend, Pete. My GGrandfather was Sgt. Will Newlon of the Iowa 3d Infantry.
Both men fought the Shiloh battle.

In 2005 Pete and I visited this battlefield. By plotting Will's Civil War journal entries of the battle and Shiloh Park records of the 26th Infantry and the 3d Iowa, we ascertained that at one point, very close to the Hornet's Nest, our two ancestors may have been within 50 feet of one another!

Pete knows very little about Lt. Gaston, his war record and later life.

If anyone reading this posting can shed light on Benjamin, please email me.
