Name: Solomon Hilliard RussellRank: 1st Sergeant Company: G
He was a resident of Smith County, TX. Parents were Thomas B. and Elizabeth Hilliard Russell from South Carolina. His youngest sister was my ggreat grandmother May 'Mertie' Florence Russell, who married James Knox Polk Gilliam, also a veteran (Co H 13 Tex Inf. C.S.A.). After the Civil War, he married Carrie A. Law Setzler, widow of Jacob R. Setzler. His sister, Martha Russell, married Warren U. Watson. Warren & Martha Russell Watson's daughter was Jinnie Watson, who married
Charles Columbus Gilliam of the same unit as Solomon Hilliard Russell.

The Russell's were from South Carolina, but migrated to Mississippi, about 1850 where my ggrandmother (youngest daughter) was born, and Martha (oldest daughter), was married to Warren Watson. The Russells and Watsons came to Texas about 1859, and settled in Smith County around Starrville.
