Cemetery is no longer maintained. A monument was erected at the Dees Cemetery near Jennings, Florida where his wife is buried. Lewis is a brother to Jessie Tyre, Company E 9th Fla Infantry, Benjamin Tyre, Company H 2nd Fla Cavalry, Nathaniel C. Tyre, Company F, 5th Fal Infantry, Solomon Tyre, Company B 10th Fla Infantry and later Company B, 1st Fla Reserves and Hillary Tyre, Company K 1st Fla Cavalry.

Name: Jeremiah Wells Anderson | Rank: Sergeant Major | Company: D | I am a direct descendent of Jeremiah W. Anderson (b. 1834), believed to be 5-6 generations removed. He had a son Berry Patrick Anderson (b. 185?), who had a son named Berry Patrick Anderson Jr.(b. 187?), who had a son Ishom Jeremiah Anderson (my great-grandfather; b. 189?), who had a son Isom James Anderson (my grandfather; b. 1921), who had a son Bucky James Anderson (my dad; b. 1955) and I am Zachary James Anderson (b. 1983). He served in the 5th Florida Infantry regimen. Wounded in the battle of Anteitam and later died under the care of Amanda Licklider, a nurse in Shepherdstown Virginia (now West Virginia). In my family's possession is a letter from Ms. Licklider explaining his injuries and the worries of the time. Page was wounded in the right knee in the Battle of Sharpsburg (Antietam), September 17, 1862. His right leg was amputated above the knee. He was discharged on March 13, 1863 as a private.

Name: Josiah Lott Warren, Jr. | Rank: Sergeant | Company: E | Josiah enlisted on 28 Feb 1862 at Madison County Court House to serve three years. He served in Co. E., 5th Regiment, Florida Infantry. He was made Sergeant when he entered but was Private when he died. Following the Battle of Second Bull Run Manassas, Virginia, Josiah was hospitalized in Warrenton Hospital where he died of chronic diarrhea 1862: June 27: Battle of Cold Harbor (Richmond VA), which was the bloodiest battle in the Civil War. Over 1,000 men were sent from Florida to the battle. 1862: August: Battle of Second Bull Run (Manassas, VA)

Name: George Wilhelm Dice | Rank: Private | Company: G | George Dice was born in 1831, he enlisted for duty for the C.S.A. in Tallahassee, Florida August 20, 1861. He was discharged for an unknown reason and re-enlisted January, 8th, 1862 Company G, 5th Florida Infantry. He fought in numerous campaigns including the Second Bull Run (Manassas)August 28-30 1862, Antietam September 17, 1862, Fredricksburg December 13, 1862, Chancellorsville May 1-4 1863 and finally Gettysburg July 1-3 1863. He was wounded by a gun shot to the shoulder which led to amputation. He was captured and taken prisoner and kept at the Fort Delaware Prison until his release September 14, 1864. He served as page of the body in the Florida Constitutional Convention of 1885. He died January 1900 and is buried at San Pedro Cemetary in Madison County Florida along the old Spanish Trail. I have his original confederate picture and pention papers along with other things.

Name: John Perry Strickland | Rank: 3rd Corporal | Company: G | John Perry was one of 3 brothers who joined Capt. Bailey's Co 5th Florida Infantry at Saint Marks Florida on 8 March 1862. It seems that John was 15 and lied about being 16. There are 23 cards in his archival file, mostly very faded. He was captured and exchanged but the details are few. He was in the hospital in the Richmond Va area. Diagnosis unknown. He survived the war and died 7 Oct. 1917 and is buried in Waukeenah, Jefferson County Florida.

He and his brothers Nathan Ward, & John Perry Strickland enlisted at St Marys Florida on 8 March 1862 in Capt. Bailey's Company. Thomas has 18 cards in his archival file, most are very faded. He was a patient in the hospital in Richmond Virginia at least twice. He died there probably of disease on 3 Feb. 1863. He is my third cousin 3 x removed. The grandson of Temperance Gandy.

Name: William Henry Beck | Rank: Private | Company: H | This is my Gr-Gr-Granddad. He was mustered into the 5th Fla Inf Reg Co. 'H' from Calhoun Co., Fl at a place called Rico Bluffs near Apalachicola, Fl. He was wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg in the abdomen area on July 3rd, 1863. Was subsequently captured and spent many months in several hospitals. He applied for and was granted a war pension by the State of Florida in 1885 and received about two checks before he died form his Gettysburg battlefield wound as stated by the medical examiner.

Name: Bennett Travis Sansom | Rank: 2nd Sergeant | Company: H | He is my great great grandfather. Originally enlisted in 1861, as a private. It was during this time that he fought in the Battle of Santa Rosa Island at Ft Pickins. He mustered out April '62, then back in May ''62 at Rico's Bluff near Tallahassee where he was promoted to sergeant, in the Florida 5th Infantry Company H for the duration of the War. The entire Florida 5th Infantry was sent tto fight along side of General Lee. The bloodiest and worst battles of the war were fought by these men until General Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House.
