Martin Fox was born in Ireland in Dec 1829. Martin settled in Shelby County, AL where he married Pheraby (aka Fanny or Ferry) Womack in 1856. He was in Shelby Co, AL on the 1860 Census and his enlisment into Co I, 18th AL Infantry on 19 Aug 1861 was at Harpersville. He was still in Shelby County on the 1866 State Census taken after the end of the Civil War as well as the 1870 Federal census. In 1880 he was in Etowah Co, AL & by 1900 he was in St Clair Co, AL. He applied for a pension, citing his wounds received in the Battle of Shiloh on April 6th, 1862 (wounded in both shoulders & the right hip). He received pensions from 1892-1899 in St Clair Co, AL. In 1904, 1906 & 1909 his Widow received a pension, citing his death on 17 Sep 1904. Testimonial Letter's voucing for his service & wounds came from 'Thomas Jefferson Martin' of Harpersville, AL on 20 Apr 1899 (also wounded at Shiloh), and from 'Joseph F Johnston' on 7 Apr 1899 (wounded in right forearm at the Battle of Chickamauga). * These Pensions & letters can be reviewed at You can also contact me through
