Born in Alabama on January 22, 1825 to Patrick Smith, Sr. and Mary 'Polly' Lindsay Smith, Patrick Smith Jr. enlisted as a private, from Coosa County Alabama, in Co. D. 18th Alabama Infantry on July 4, 1861.
On May 23, 1851, Patrick Smith Jr. married Mary N. Palmer. They lived most of their lives in Coosa County where they raised their family. They moved to Clanton, Chilton County, Alabama after 1880. Their children were: Abram S., William H., Nancy A.R., Mary J., James P., Alfred, Thomas, and Joseph A.('Lonnie').
Patrick Smith secured a pension for his service and stated in his pension deposition that he was shot in the shoulder at the Battle of Chickamauga.
Patrick Smith, Jr. (known to locals in Clanton, AL) as 'Uncle Paddy' died January 23, 1914. He is buried at Clanton town cemetery, next to his wife.
