Unfortunately; he died in May 1863.Brightwell, Len Reynolds (sic Burnel) Private Company C Age at Enlistment: 38 Enlisted 31 March 1862 at Leon AL for a period of three years; Appears on Muster Roll of Co C dated 13 May 1862 at Auburn AL; Believed WIA in unknown action and died of his wounds at home while in service; Died 20 May 1863 and claim for deceased soldier filed 27 May 1863 by Caroline Brightwell, widow, at Covington AL (speed by which claim was filed supports belief that he was home at time of death); Appears on Pay Roll dated 31 Oct 1863 at Montgomery AL with notation 'Died in Covington County, Alabama' (during the pay period); He was son of William Brightwell and Sara Windsor Brightwell of Barnwell SC; Wife/widow Caroline E. Parker Brightwell was daughter of Daniel C. Parker and Mary Mitchell; Included in report of Covington Rifles, SCV Camp No. 1586 of Andalusia, Alabama entitled 'Known Gravesites of Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Buried in Covington County, Alabama' as one of '... buried on the battlefields or believed to be buried in unmarked graves in Covington County' with this entry: 'Brightwell, L. Reynolds. Died in service 20 May 1863. Co. C, 37th Alabama Infantry. Believed to have died at home while on furlough.
