Caswell organised the Caswell Sharpshooters. He was captured by Union forces at Hooker Gap, Tennessee 24 June 1863. He died of small pox at Ft Delaware where he was a POW. The prisoners who died at Ft Delaware were buried in a mass grave now designated as Finns Point National Cemetery. There is a monument erected to the some 2,436 Confederate prisoners buried there. His name is listed on a bronze plate as Caswell Lard. Born abt. 1835 Franklin Co., Ga. Died 10 Jul 1863 Ft. Delaware. Married Delona Ann Stiefel.
