Hines was originally a volunteer in the Reserve Company, Beat No. 5, in Captain John L. Wortham's Company of the 19th Texas Brigade. In 1863, he joined Captain James Steele's Company, and then in 1865, he joined Captain C.B. Duncan's Company. |
