Born in Georgia, Hines moved to Texas circa 1850-55. He lived on the Hines Place plantation in Freestone Co., Texas.(Note: Hines is the son-in-law of Brigadier General Joseph Johnson, also of the 19th Texas.)
Hines was originally a volunteer in the Reserve Company, Beat No. 5, in Captain John L. Wortham's Company of the 19th Texas Brigade. In 1863, he joined Captain James Steele's Company, and then in 1865, he joined Captain C.B. Duncan's Company. |
