Name: Josiah Madry, Jr.Rank: Private Company: H

Josiah entered Confederate service at Rome, Georgia. His records are provided at Film number M232 roll 33, Civil War Soldier & Sailors System (http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/). He was born 1836 in Wake, North Carolina. Josiah was one of my cousins on my father's paternal side. His sister - my GGrandmother, Mary, married my GGrandfather - Thomas J. Gattis. Other members of the Gattis Family joined the 40th Georgia Infanty Regmt. The 8th Georgia Regmt sustained 208 casualties at First Manassas (the highest casualties of any regiment in the battle). The Regiment stood and held it's ground in the midst of a major Union attack. At Gettsburg, they led in the center across the Wheat Field, and to the slopes of Little Round Top. A novel entitled 'A Scythe of Fire' was written about his Regiment.
