Ancestor Info
Name: Bennett Travis SansomRank: 2nd Sergeant Company: H

He is my great great grandfather. Originally enlisted in 1861, as a private. It was during this time that he fought in the Battle of Santa Rosa Island at Ft Pickins. He mustered out April '62, then back in May ''62 at Rico's Bluff near Tallahassee where he was promoted to sergeant, in the Florida 5th Infantry Company H for the duration of the War. The entire Florida 5th Infantry was sent tto fight along side of General Lee. The bloodiest and worst battles of the war were fought by these men until General Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House.
