Madison F. Crumley, first cousin to George B. and Sidney S. Crumley, was chosen for transfer and promotion to the 3rd Georgia Battalion SS on June 8, 1863. He had served as 2cd Lt. in Co.B of the 18th Georgia, the only non-Texas regiment in Hood`s Texas Brigade. He lead his sharpshooters company through fierce fighting, from Gettysburg on, until he was captured in battle on 19, Oct. 1864 at Cedar Creek during the Federal counter-attack.
