He and his son,Peter Francis Tew, who joined up at the age of 15 yrs., were both mustered into Co.B, 57th Ala. Vol. Infantry, Shelly's Brigade. Allen Tew was a member of the Primative Baptist Church in Brundridge, AL. His wife was Sara Benson Tew. In a 1891 Troy Messenger newspaper article about old people in Pike Co. Said in 1836 he had fought desperatley the Indians in and around Pike Co.AL. He had 10 children and 58 grandchildren. He could still chop a acre of cotton or walk 25 miles in a day.
