29th Alabama Infantry (CSA)
Ancestor Info
Name: Matthew Hamilton HigginbothamRank: 2nd Lieutenant Company: C

This is my Great Grandfather. He enlisted from Blount County Alabama as a Private with several brothers and our family history indicates he eventually became a brevet Captain. He had a wild tusk-like tooth that extended up into his walrus mustache that he wore to attempt to cover it. State Archives tell that the 29th Alabama began with 1100 men with only 90 men left to muster out when the unit surrendered in North Carolina. I was amazed to see my maternal Great Great Grandfather George Washington Isbell on this list as having been in Company E of the 29th Alabama!
