1825-1863 John J. Simonds served as a private in the Company I, 43rd Regiment of the Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee, Confederate States of America. The company was known as the “Zillicoffer Guards.” He was killed in the Battle of Chickamauga, Sept. 19, 1863. He had been enlisted on March 11, 1862 for a period of three years or the duration of the war, by one H.P. Bell in Cumming, Forsyth County, GA. He is my great-great-great grandfather on my Dad's side.
