The following is a quotation from the book titled 'JOHN GULLEY GENEALOGY A PLANTER IN ALABAMA ANND ARKANSAS AND HIS DESCENDANTS' authored by Paul John.--- Thomas Henry Purifoy, was born 9 Sept. 1844 in Conecuh County AL, and in 1860 was living with his parents in Jackson Twp of Ouachita County AR and attending school. As soon as he became 17 he joined the Confederate Army. He enlisted in Company B, 15th Reg. Ark. Infantry, on 17 Oct. 1861 at Camden AR. Two of his uncles, Henry Cicero Gulley and Mathew B. Gulley, enlisted at Camden AR on the same date and in the same company.--- Four months later, on 16 Feb. 1862, all three were captured by Union Forces in a battle at Fort Donalson VA. Thomas and Henry were taken as P.O.W.'s to Camp Butler Springfield IL. Mathew, who was wounded, was transported to a hospital in St. Louis MO. Thomas Henry Purifoy died at Camp Butler 29 March 1862, (cause of death not given) and is buried in the National Cemetery at Springfield IL. He was 17 and had been a soldier only six month when he died.
