George is shown on the Federal Census for September 15, 1860 as living at Dwelling # 1345 in Rockbridge District of Gwinnett County, Georgia, where he operated his family farm, his Gin Mill and a Bakery. George enlisted May 5, 1862 and served as a private in Company F, 35th Georgia Regiment from Gwinnett County, with General Stonewall Jackson's Brigade of the Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A. under General Robert E. Lee. He was wounded on June 26, 1862 at Mechanicsville, Virginia and admitted to the 1st Georgia Hospital on June 27, 1862. Was on disability leave until the summer of 1864. During the war he fought in the following battles / events; (1) Seven Pines {May 31 - June 1, 1862} (2) Seven Days {June 25 - July 1, 1862} (3) Mechanicsville {June 26, 1862} (4) Cold Harbor {June 1 - 3, 1864} (5) Petersburg Siege {June 1864 - April 1865}
