Joseph H. Pickle was from Grayson Co., Va - Enlisted June 4, 1861 and became the regimental color bearer (sergeant). Pickle is mentioned in reports in the Official Records for gallantry at Chancellorsville and was again cited for his actions at Gettysburg in a promotion request letter of 7 Aprill 1864. He was promoted to Color Ensign/1st Lieutenant on 28 April 1864, but was killed in action 7 days later (5 May 1864) at the battle of the Wilderness.
