He was killed at Gaines Mill June 27th, 1862. His 2 year old daughter Virginia Lee Hill was my grandmother's mother her name was Sarah Ruth Bridges born Sept. 8, 1900 in Birmingham,Alabama. My mother Virginia lee Grey was born June 12, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama. I was born January 29, 1946. I donated the letter that Capt. Brewton notified john c hill's wife of his death at gaines mill to the Civil War museum in Fredericksburg Va. Capt.C.W. Brewton wrote the letter from Fredericksburg, Va. on April 25th, 1863. His wife's name was Naoma Hill. ACC 557 Cat 5842 My understanding is the original letter is at Chancellorsville, Va.
