Marcus D. L. Green was the colorbearer of the 35 from the death of Lowe Dement the 1st Colorbearer at Jackson, MS late summer of 1863. Marcus carried the flag until he was wounded at Peachtree Creek, Atlanta, GA on July 20, 1864 where he lost his right leg. His brother-in-law Robert Wheeler became the thrid colorbear July 20 until his death Nov. 30, 1864 at the Battle of Franklin, TN. MDL Green survived to recover the body of Robert Wheeler and buried him in Oakwood Cem. Tuscumbia, AL. MDL Green became a harness maker and cobbler, but also cemetery sexton of Oakwood. He was my 2nd greatgrandfather.
