Born of a resolution of the Continental Congress in 1775, the Marine Corps came into being with the nation it serves - and has been a proud defender of the American ideal ever since.

The latest addition to the popular "Military Power" series, USMC gives the readers a feel for what it means -- and has meant -- to be a Marine with photographs of historic missions and shots of the Corps in action today.  On display in this gloriously illustrated volume are the discipline, loyalty, enthusiasm, and poise that distinguish each soldier, and that give the entire Corps such power and cohesion.

With chapters that range from a general overview of the branch's history and the structure and planning of the US Marine Corps to the changing face of war and the future of the Corps, USMC covers every angle of life (past and present) of those select few who make up the tightly knit fighting force -- one known for its abilitiy to strike at lightning speed with massive, overwhelming power in the most volatile situations, doing whatever it takes.
