Fabulous story, Larry !
How much credence should we place on it ?
Religious fervour was a very potent factor in those days.
Intriguing reference to the Copperheads : they would repudiate the story because, presumably, it endorsed the war as a holy endeavour against an evil power….. not good news for those seeking a compromise and peace.
It would make a superb movie, rather in the mode of The Free State of Jones.
Exaggerated or not, it’s a powerful story. It’s a theme I’ve seen replicated in stories from other wars.
Regards, Phil

The Persecution of Quakers.

The Quakers were persecuted even earlier in American History.
Those who defied the Puritans by persistently returning to their jurisdictions risked capital punishment, a penalty imposed on four Quakers between 1659 and 1661.

Just one of the reasons we have a 1st Amendment.( really the 3rd Amendment proposed by the FF, but #1 and #2 failed to pass.)
