Now, when banks and investment funding pushes ESG....says they won`t invest in fossil fuels....that's not marketplace, but ideologically driven.

Agree completely. There are large pension funds (typically for teachers or other gov't employees) that are fond of ESG mandates. And I think that this is a pile of crap-:) A pension fund's job should be to maximize returns, not try and make the world a better place. Frankly, oil and gas shares don't care who owns them-:) Their feelings won't be hurt if some ESG mandate wants to save the gay whales.

Fortunately (??) your average pension fund manager would sell his mother's soul for 25 basis points of outperformance....so if oil stocks look cheap because ABC Teachers' pension fund has a "no oil stocks" mandate, there are usually tons of other portfolio managers that are happy to buy what they view as an undervalued stock.

We have the same problem with Central Bank mandates. Which is perhaps why we are in the ;pickle that we are in now, with high inflation and a panicked FED/Bank of Canada.

Used to be, the job of the FED etc. was to control inflation. Then low unemployment became part of their mandate....and of course, income inequality has now somehow fallen under their jurisdiction as well....

s.c.

Correct Steve....and this is the problem, and a danger, when investment firms and corps are more concerned with ESG, or equity( not equality, but this crap called equity) then they are not doing their jobs, representing the investors financial interests...or if it`s the Pentagon...not doing their job which is to represent the offensive, defensive and strategic interests of the country. And the Fed is a joke.

And cudos to you, Vpat, for making mention of the war on farms, farming, and fertilizer usage. If we don`t get a grip on this insane garbage, governments will be overthrown, peacefully or not, and civil societies will falter.

You're right that other things cause far more bird deaths.
However, even that being the case, there are a few points to consider:
1) Not all bird deaths are equal (in terms of relative populations). Window hits and cats, for example, kill a lot of small, numerous birds that live in close proximity to humans such as sparrows, starlings, grackles, and such. Neither cats, nor windows, kill a lot of eagles and other predatory birds (many endangered).

2) If we're going to do an environmental impact study, which studies the impact on every creature down to a beetle in the area, every time a new nuclear, coal, LPG, or other such plant is constructed, then we should likewise consider the impact of every new windmill constructed

if there is a war on farms, it is being led by Corporate America, buying up family farms.

Maybe its time to do away with the farm subsidies that seem to increase every 5 years. Last I checked, the Farm subsidy that farmers got under Trump ballooned to over $20 Billion dollars.

That kind of money could give all Americans health insurance, including farmers.
