Great discovery!

DT, thanks for the heads-up and the link. I hadn’t seen this before.
I enjoyed the link, but found it didn’t answer many of the questions that sprung to my mind, but they have their own audience to please.
Cheers Brian G

OP, that’s a delicate matter. Heracles/Hurcules was born without a penis. This was no big issue until he was a teen, when in Gym class he always came up short.
He was a teen. He blamed his parents. He thought of changing his name to Oedipus, but realized that though he could easily kill his father he could not complete the full original Greek tragedy. He could only have one of his own.
That’s why I was so interested in the decisions the diggers were making despite the lack of detail for the statue. Rods, staves, maces, swords are all penis substitutes.
Cheers Brian G

This is most likely already known by all but wasnt it and a former pope that put fig leaves on all the male statues at the Vatican who were not wearing underwear? I did read somewhere as well that Romans actually valued small penises it showed that the poor fellow exhibited intelligence rather than brute force. Possibly why most Roman statues have small members that are easily covered by a fig leaf, or maybe they were knocked off with an early jack hammer and there are a bunch of huge marble cocks buried on Vatican grounds ready to be unearthed someday who knows. Maybe the Irish curse is not such a curse by Roman standards.

Yeah, the fig leaves were retrofitted to a lot of statuary. The Vatican has, IIRC, seventeen art galleries.
