New Grant bio?

Anyone read a new Grant bio by Bret Baier?

A friend of mine asked my opinion…I had never heard of the book (I gather it has just been released), so thought I would ask here.

I had also never heard of Mr. Baier….. I gather he works for Fox News? And would probably be “known” to American viewers/potential readers??

Steve...it is not really a Grant bio. Baier likes to write about important moments in American history. It may involve critical days...or months , but biography is not his thing.

Respects, Morris

Morris, thanks for that info. I assume we’re talking about To Rescue the Republic, written with Catherine Whitney.

A good reporter is often the ideal author to deal with short-term crises, and Mr Baier appears to have found a format which works for him, and which fits the skills he uses for his broadcasts.

I will admit I don’t know his work, either on air with his network broadcasts. But his studies seem to be popular and accredited (as a NYT bet-seller). Nor do I know Catherine Whitney, though she appears to be one of those incredible writers who can work on demand.

Have you read this volume? I assume from your comments you haven’t. Fair enough. But if you have read any of his works, which would you recommend as a good read?

I know this moves away from Grant and Steve’s query, but if he didn’t write a bio of Grant in his latest work, what has he written about that might be interesting?

Hope you are well.

Cheers. And stay safe.

Brian, I have not read any of Baier`s books yet. All i know is that he wrote 'Three Days in January" that highlights the import of Eisenhower`s last days in office. " " Three Days at the Brink" which covers the crucial import of the Yalta Conference. And " Three Days In Moscow" which goes into some depth about the Reagan trip to Soviet Russia.

All important topics of interest...just not biographies of a person, but of an important moment in history.

Morris, thanks for the info. I haven’t read him either, but might look for the Ike volume as a first shot.

There is another US author, Hungarian-born, named John Lukacs, who has written volumes of a similar nature. My favourite of his works is Five Days in London: May 1940, concerning WSC’s attempts to consolidate power as newly chosen PM. When they’re well-done, they make incredibly rich reading.

Cheers. And stay safe.

Thanks Morris.

Yeah, I did a little more digging…and I gather that this book is focused on the election of 1876. And the friend that had asked me about it (apparently saw an ad or an article about this book in the Wall Street Journal) was wanting a true biography. So this ain’t it-:)
