Hi Kai,
Looks like a good movie, was it shot on location? The Germans certainly were out of their element fighting in Northern Norway! The British Navy was a big asset in the Naval part of the battle!? With Fjords & Mountains all around it certainly was a picturesque setting, as if that mattered in the battle!? But then again maybe it did (the terrain)??? Just guessing, but I bet you've been there??

Thanks for the heads-up, Kai.
Apologies for not figuring this out on my own. Does the film deal with the final collapse of the Allied attempts as well?
Looks to be a rich, brooding film. I hope it appears with decent sub-titles in English.
Cheers bg

Hi Brian, and in turn, my apologies for late response to this...I have been traveling, of all places, in the Narvik area working on preparations for Cold Response 2022, the major NATO manoeuvres taking place in northern Norway this winter.
Yes, I believe the film will cover the collapse, as that was a major part of the Norwegian experience. The Allied pulled out, but two Norwegian brigades were left undefeated and most of the soldiers did not understand why they were demobilised and sent home when the Allies left.

Hi Dave, I believe a lot of the film was shot around Narvik, but some of it was also shot in the Telemark area I believe. The terrain did play a major part in the fighting, with the most of it being done up in the mountains around Narvik, where Norwegian and French troops would essentially jump from one peak to another, dislodging the Germans as they fought their way across the mountains.
The Germans were, as you know, crack mountain troops, so on a man-by-man basis they were every bit as good as their opponents (the French and Polish were also mountain troops, and the Norwegian units were local battalions well accustomed to the terrain and climate). The Germans, of course, struggled with supplies, replacements and reinforcements as the fighting continued to drag out for a couple of months, and Gen. Dietl was genuinely afraid he would be forced to either surrender or withdraw across the border to Sweden and be interned there, none of which seemed a very attractive option for him. The rapid collapse of France saved him in the end.
On the Norwegian side there were strong voices arguing that the government should try to secure northern Norway, i.e. hold the Narvik area and everything north of that. Norwegian forces were fairly numerous at the time the battle ended, but realistically once the Germans had restored the airfields at Trondheim and Bodø, the Norwegian forces could not have held on for ever when the Allies pulled out.

Thanks Kai,
For the concise synopsis of the Battle of Narvik! The Kriegsmarine certainly seemed at time to use the Norwegian Coast as their preferred route to open sea, hopefully incognito to the RN, this battle seemed to play into that?
