Henry Telkemeyer, or Talkemeyer, was mustered into the Service of the Union Army on September 13, 1862 and was killed in action at the age of 23 on May 14, 1864 at the Battle of Resaca. Two of his letters written home before he died can be found on the web: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcass/htelkemeyer (includes picture) and http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilcass/cassletters.htm He was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Arenzville, IL, on April 1, 1855. We was the son of Wilhelm and Marie Elizabeth (Duval) and nephew of Frederich Talkemeyer all from Germany. The spelling of the last name has several changes through the years...Teilkemeir, Teilkemeier,Teilkemeyer, Telkemeyer, and Talkemeyer, and currently all the relatives use Talkemeyer.
