Allen Tew was born abt. 1818 in N. Car and died Jun 23,1893. Even though he was 45 yrs old in 1863 he shouldered a musket and fought fot the South. He and his son,Peter Francis Tew, who joined up at the age of 15 yrs., were both mustered into Co.B, 57th Ala. Vol. Infantry, Shelly's Brigade. Allen Tew was a member of the Primative Baptist Church in Brundridge, AL. His wife was Sara Benson Tew. In a 1891 Troy Messenger newspaper article about old people in Pike Co. Said in 1836 he had fought desperatley the Indians in and around Pike Co.AL. He had 10 children and 58 grandchildren. He could still chop a acre of cotton or walk 25 miles in a day. 'He is remarkable for his preserverance,industry and honesty. His parents were John Tew from Sampson Co. N.Car. and and Sara'Sallie' Benton Tew Born 1823 in Dalles Co. AL. Sara Benton Tew was the dau of Samual Benton born about 1785 died in 1834 in Barbour Co AL and Sara Benton. This Sara is in listed in Samuel's will as his wife. we have not discocvered who her parents are.
