The reg't was sent to Virginia and placed in a new brigade commanded by Alex. Taliaferro. Their 1st action at Cedar Run was a hot one for the green reg't and they broke under the assault, before finally rallying. They fought again at 2nd Manassas, this time much more cooly, and had become veterans by the battle of Sharpsburg. Fredericksburg saw the wounding and subsequent death of bro. Daniel Wilson Hammett. Sent 1st. to Camp Chase Ohio, they were soon transferred to Rock Island prison in the Mississippi River. Perry spent the remainder of the war in the POW camp, He took the oath, and was paroled May 16 1865 He began receiving a Confederate pension on May 30 1899, and died in 1922.
