Pvt. J. Loftin Quinn (1843 - 1908) enlisted in Wilsonville, Shelby, Alabama on 1 SEP 1862. He was soon mustered into the 29th Alabama Infantry, Company 'B', at Camp Lee, Pollard, Alabama and remained there from September 1862 until June 1863. In May 1863 J. Loftin Quinn was admitted to the nearby Greenville Confederate Hospital suffering from Int. Fever and was released a few days later. He then moved to Mobile, Alabama where the 29th Alabama Infantry remained from July 1863 until April 1864 when it was deployed to Resaca, Georgia to initiate the Atlanta / Dalton Campaign. He fought with the 29th Alabama Infantry at the Battles of Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, New Hope Church, Peach Tree Creek and Ezra Church. At the Battle of Ezra Church on 28 JUL 1864, J. Loftin Quinn was combat wounded when he was shot and a musket ball was lodged in his left arm where the following day on 29 JUL 1864 he was admitted to Floyd House and Ocmulgee Confederate Hospital in Macon Georgia after which he was furloughed for 60 days to recover from his injuries. After the fall of Atlanta on September 1, 1864 the 29th Alabama evacuated north to Franklin, Tennesse where they fought on November 30, 1864 and then moved on to Nashville, Tennessee where they fought that Campaign from December 2 - 16, 1864 at Confederate Redoubt # 4. J. Loftin Quinn was again Combat Wounded and was listed as being admitted to the Way Confederate Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi where he was again furloughed for 60 days to recover fron his injuries. Before he could catch back up with the 29th Alabama Infantry he was reported surrendered under Lt. Alec. Mackay in Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865 and officially paroled at Columbus, Mississippi on 16 May 1865.
