Enlisted as a Private on 21 August 1862 at the age of 26. Enlisted in Company I, 18th Infantry Regiment Maine on 21 Aug 1862. Transferred out of Company I, 18th Infantry Regiment Maine on 19 Dec 1862. Transferred into Company J, 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment Maine on 19 Dec 1862. Died from wounds Company J, 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment Maine on 19 Jun 1864. He was listed as wounded 6/18/1864 Petersburg, VA Ira Scott, in hospital 3rd Div. 2AC near Petersburg, VA., died June 19 of wounds. Date of discharge June 24, 1864. (According to another report he died at Division Hospital of wounds received in action on June 24, 1864, 4 days after receiving wound in action on June 18, 1864).
