Erasmus was born 1830 in Marlboro Co. SC His Confederate service involves several consolidations: Enlisted 17 Oct 1861 from Marlboro County SC. as Pvt. in Capt R.C Emanuel's Co G. [Hatch's Coast Rangers] 4 cards, On 15 Nov 1861 this became Co G 23 Regiment SC Inf. 4 Cards. On 1 May 1864 it became Co E 19th Battalion SC Cavalry [ Capt A.D. Sparks SC Mounted Rifles aka Ripley Rangers] 12 cards, Mustered into Confederate Service as Co L 20th Regiment SC Infantry Vols. Then found in Capt Ellison S Keitt's Co Mounted Rifles and was transferred in Oct 1864 to Co. E 1st South Carolina Infantry [Butler's] . 2 Cards in archival file.. He saw service at the following battles: Malvern Hill, Rappahnock Station, 2nd Manassas, South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Jackson, Mississippi siege. Bermuda Hundred, Petersburg Seige, Crater,Fort Steadman. Five Forks, Appomattox, Erasmus died young at age 35 on 9 Feb 1865 sent to an early grave by the effect of the war leaving behind a wife and small children. He is buried at Hebron Cem. Bennettsville, Marlboro Co. SC. Deo Vindice The roster for this unit contains the names of 1,858 Southern Patriots.
