Keeter, Henry Clay, Private Company C, 34th North Carolina Infantry “The Rutherford Rebels” Born in Rutherford County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Rutherford County at age 17, September 2, 1861. Present or accounted for through April 1862. Reported absent without leave in January-February 1863. Returned to duty in March-April 1863. Wounded in the left leg and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania July 1-3, 1863. Hospitalized at Chester, Pennsylvania, July 19, 1863. Transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, October 2, 1863. Paroled at Point Lookout on April 27, 1864, and transferred to City Point, Virginia, where he was received on April 30, 1864, for exchange. Reported absent wounded or absent sick through October 1864. Retired to the Invalid Corps on January 7, 1865. Note: Henry Keeter may have been absent without leave in early 1863 due to the death of his brother George F. Keeter who had died or was killed about the same time. They served in the same company and regiment. Born: November 22, 1844 in Rutherford Co., NC Died: March 11, 1915 in Marion Co., ARK Buried: unknown Married: Zilla Elimina Smith Children: 16
