Our G--Grand father**JOHN S. HINTON*** is said to have Fought in the Battles thru north Georgia all the way to and beyond ATLANTA!
Was said to have been wounded At'PEACHTREE CREEK'[shot in the Head],recoperated and Fought on down to the 'TALLASE, AL and Tallahase, FL, and MOBILE BAY'areas, where his UNIT Made a stand,was Captured, Taken to SHIPS ISLAND and made a PRISONER OF WAR!!
Some sources say they were part of a 'POW EXCHANGE @ END OF THE WAR'[Taken to VICKSBURG]!!
We have Verified Burial with **CSA HEAD STONE**in TUSCALOOSA, AL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Born about 1823 in Ramer, Montgomery County, Alabama. Enlisted Spring 1861, Pine Level, Montgomery County, Alabama. 6th Alabama Cavalry, Co. M (Colvin's Regiment) as Private. Also served in 8th Alabama Cavalry, Co. C (Livingston's Regiment) as Private. Wounded at Battle of Vicksburg and sent to Shelby Springs Confederate Hospital. Died on 19 March 1864 in Shelby Springs Confederate Hospital, Shelby County, Alabama. Burial is at Shelby Springs Confederate Cemetery (Old Soldiers Grave Yard), Shelby Springs, Shelby County, Alabama.
