Thomas Henry Kimbrough died on September 12, 1864, while serving in the Confederate Army. His wife, Artie Misses Edwards - Kimbrough, and his son eventually moved to Texas after Thomas' death. I have a photo of Artie Misses, but no photos of Thomas Henry Kimbrough. Any photos, will be much appreciated.

William Marshall Funderburg - Private
|
William Marshall Funderburg is my gggrandfather. He was from St.Clair County Alabama. Marshall served in the 12th Alabama Infantry, and was captured in Monacacy, Maryland after the battle of July 9th, 1864. Serving with Jubal Early in his attempt to capture Washington D.C., It is unclear if he was wounded, but was captured, by General Hunter's forces and sent to Old Capitol prison in D.C. Later in the same month he ws sent to the infamous Elmira, (Hellmira) camp in lower New York. He died of typhoid fever there November 1, 1864 and is buried at the Confederate cemetery there. He left a widow and eight children.

Sanford M Adams - Private
|
Sanford was born in Tennessee in 1833. At the time of the Civil War he lived in Pickins County Alabama and was mustered into Company K (Tom Watts Rebels) of the 12th Alabama Infantry Rgt. Sanford's unit was part of the Army of Northern Virginia and he participated in every campaign until Gettysburg where he was struck in the arm on July 1, 1863. Sanford was left wounded on the field and picked up by Union forces and taken to their aide station. As a Union doctor went around talking to the wounded he asked Sanford's name. Upon learning he was an Adams, the doctor said he was an Adams from Massachusetts and ordered Sanford treated right away. Sanford's left arm was amputated and the doctors gave him the mutilated minie ball that did the damage. Sanford was released as a war invalid and sent home. He kept the gruesome souvenir for the rest of his life and his heirs have it to this day. Sanford migrated to Texas in the years after the war and in 1896 died in Richmond, Texas. He is buried in Morton Cemetary in that city with many civil war veterans.
