Campbell Virdell Gemes - Private
|
Campbell Virdell Gemes(aka James) enlisted in July 1861 at Tallasee, Alabama. He was present at the Siege of Yorktown, 1862/04/10-1862/05/03, from above date to and including Chanceloorsville, 1863/05/03. He was captured at Gettysburg, 1863/07/01, but I'm not sure when he was released. After the war he relocated to Bartow Co, GA. He enlisted with his brother, Benjamin James, and I believe his sister Emaline went with them as laundress. Muster reports show a female James laundress and neither of them were married when they enlisted.

Benjamin Franklin James (aka Jems, Gemes) enlisted in 1862 at Tallasee, Alabama. He was injured and captured at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. On 5 November 1862 he was part of a prisoner exhange. On 26 February 1863 he died of disease without returning to 'active duty.' I am trying to locate anything additional I can about him. He enlisted with his brother, Campbell, and I believe his sister Emaline went with them as laundress. Muster reports show a female James laundress and neither of them were married when they enlisted.
