James Virgil Stringer - Private
James was 16 when he enlisted April 1863 in 1st Alabama Reserves. He entered active duty at Mobile, Ala. on 24 Aug 1864 when this unit was commissioned Co F 62nd Alabama Infantry. Enlisted by Major Stone. He has 2 CMR's in his archival file. His application for CSA pension states he was in Co F 66th Regt. Ala. Inf. I have seen a reference to the 66th but no history. I suspect it was a desperate effort to form a fighting force from the scattered broken units.
