There were 6 Witt brothers that served in 10th Arkansas CSA with Allen Rufus Witt serving first as Captain Co. A and after Shiloh was elected as regimental commander with rank of Colonel which he held until he surrendered the 10th Ark. at Jacksonport, Ark. on June 5, 1865. Two of the brothers died as a result of the war, Charles William Witt died in pow camp at West Alton, Ill. and Milton K. Witt was murdered at close range by Redlegs and Unionists who killed the wrong Witt. They were led to the site by the Union scout Thomas J. Williams who was later killed by Col. Witt and the 10TH.
