Mitchel Griffin Fortner

Mitchel Griffin Fortner raised Company E, 22nd Georgia Cavalry as a State Guard unit. He had three sons who also served the Confederacy: 1st Corporal Jonathan L. Fortner of Comapny E, 49th GA Infantry, 2nd Lieutenant James A. Fortner of Company H, 10th GA Infantry, and Private Stephen A. Fortner of Company B, 64th GA Infantry. Mitchell Griffin later became a State Senator in Florida in 1873 and 1874. Died July 8, 1887 and rests in Mount Olive Cemetery near Bradley Junction, Florida.
